VEDA VYASA

Vyasa otherwise known as Veda Vyasa was born to Mahrshi Parasara and fisher-woman Satyavathy. As in the case of avadhars of Lord Krishna, Lord Rama, Jesus Christ (of Christians), the birth of Vyasa is surrounded by mystery . Satyavathy's birth is still more a mystery. Her mother was an apsaras and because of certain curse she had to take birth as a matsya-kanniga and she was living in River Yamuna. A famous king came that way, saw her and fell in love. As a result Satyavathy was born to them. She was brought up by a fisherman. Being born to Matsya kanni, the child Satyavathy was smelling fish. She was helping her foster-father in ferrying boat across River Yamuna. On one occasion Mahrshi Parasara happened to travel in the boat ferried by Satyavathy. A sudden thought came to the Sage that Satyavathy be blessed with a child. Then a mist surrounded Yamuna river and an islet was formed where Satyavathy delivered a baby. Rishi-garbham doesnt require sexual intercourse nor the normal 9 months oeriod of pregnancy. Further as a surprise the baby grew as a lad within minutes of its birth. The lad took leave pf mother Satyavathy and accompanied Sage Parasara. The lad was named as Vyasa. The birth was on a Ashada Poornima day. It is believed that Lord Narayana himself took birth as Vyasa to fulfill certain mission well known to Himself alone. The birth of Vyasa happened during Dwapara Yuga. (The presence of cent percent virtue in Satya Yuga gradually diminished in the following yugas and in the present Kali yuga only 25 percent virtue remains. Symbolically a cow stands on one leg losing the other three legs. )

Vyasa studied all scriptures under the guidance of his father. He visited all pilgrim centres. Rishi Gowdhama and Brahmarishi Vasishta gave insturctions - more about scriptures and reminded him of his mission. Vyasa being dark in colour was called 'Krishna'. Because he was born in a islet he was known as 'dwaipayana'. He stayed in Badri and therefore the name 'Badrayana' came to him. He codified the Vedas and therefore known as Veda Vyasa. Thus he is known as Krishna Dwaipayana Badrayana Veda Vyasa.

It is beyond belief that Veda Vyasa authored 18 puranas, 18 upa-puranas apart from codifying the Vedas. The authorship of Brahnasutra is also attributed to him. Maha Baratha with the jewel of Bhagavathgeetha has also been written by him. No wonder he is described as Sarva-drik Vyasa in Vishnu Sahasranamam.. He is believed Shriman Narayana Himself.
